CDI’s School Avoidance Toolkit: A Vital Resource for Educators and Families
Our School Avoidance Toolkit was developed to address the escalating challenge of School Avoidance among children and young people. This resource provides educators, parents, and professionals with evidence-based, practical solutions for supporting vulnerable young people.
Addressing a Critical Need
School Avoidance (School refusal)—often linked to anxiety, depression, bullying, and social isolation—has become increasingly prevalent, leaving many families struggling without adequate support. CDI’s toolkit fills this critical gap with accessible strategies and resources.
Developed in collaboration with education and mental health experts, the online toolkit offers practical, research-based strategies to help educators and parents support children’s return to education. The resource includes:
- Step-by-step guidance for parents and educators
- Visual prompts for easy and clear access
- Evidence-based strategies for student re-engagement
National Recognition
The toolkit aligns with CDI’s ongoing commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people, as outlined in the organisation’s Strategic Plan 2025-2028. It has already received endorsement from key stakeholders, including Amanda Cullen, Senior Educational Welfare Officer at Tusla Educational Support Services, who praised the initiative for “making a tangible difference in our community.”
